RF Microneedling Pre-Care & Aftercare Instructions

How to Prepare for Radiofrequency Microneedling and Support Your Skin’s Recovery

RF microneedling combines fine needles with radiofrequency energy to target the appearance of fine lines, uneven texture, enlarged pores, and certain acne scars. At Eureka Body Care & Spa, following the preparation and aftercare guidance below helps protect your skin and supports the collagen-building process after treatment.

Before Your RF Microneedling Appointment

  • Avoid tanning and excessive sun exposure for at least two weeks before your appointment; do not come in with sunburned skin.
  • Stop retinoids and strong exfoliating products 3 to 5 days before treatment, unless your provider advises otherwise.
  • Tell your provider about any medications, recent isotretinoin (Accutane) use, active acne or skin infections, and any history of cold sores — preventive medication may be recommended.
  • Avoid waxing or other skin-irritating treatments on the area for one week before.
  • Arrive with clean skin, free of makeup and lotions.

After Your RF Microneedling Treatment

  • Redness, warmth, and mild swelling are normal for 1 to 3 days. Tiny pinpoint marks or a sandpaper-like texture can appear as the skin heals.
  • Keep the area clean and hands off. Cleanse gently as directed by your provider, usually starting the day after treatment.
  • Do not apply makeup for the first 24 hours.
  • Moisturize as directed and use sunscreen daily once your provider says your skin is ready; avoid direct sun while healing.
  • Pause retinoids, exfoliating acids, and other active products for 5 to 7 days, or as directed.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, steam, and pools for 48 hours.
  • Do not pick at flaking skin or pinpoint crusts — let them shed naturally.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much downtime does RF microneedling have?

Most clients return to normal activities in 1 to 3 days. Redness usually fades over several days, though makeup should wait at least 24 hours.

When will I see RF microneedling results?

Skin often looks fresher within a couple of weeks, while firmness and texture improvements build over 4 to 12 weeks as new collagen forms. A series of sessions is commonly recommended.

Is RF microneedling painful?

A topical numbing cream is applied before treatment to keep you comfortable. Clients usually describe the sensation as light pressure with warmth.

How many sessions of RF microneedling do I need?

Many treatment plans include 3 sessions spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart. Your provider will tailor the plan to your skin and goals.

Can RF microneedling be combined with other treatments?

It is sometimes combined with other procedures in a provider-designed plan. Ask your provider which combinations and timing are appropriate for you.

When to Contact a Medical Professional

Contact your treating clinician if redness or pain keeps increasing after 3 days, or if you notice blistering, yellow crusting, cold-sore outbreaks, or signs of infection. Seek emergency care for difficulty breathing or swelling of the lips or tongue.
