It may sound like the young upstart versus the heavyweight champion. CoolSculpting has been FDA approved for about five years now, while liposuction has been in use for decades. However, in 2017, it is merely a matter of patient selection, with each method of fat removal having its own list of pros and cons. Lucky for you, the experts at Eureka Body Care & Spa are here to provide you with their own rundown of the advantages and disadvantages of both.
Your best answer if you have questions about fat removal will come from scheduling a consultation at our spa. Regardless of the method, it boils down to whether or not you are good candidate. So where to begin?
Liposuction
Making its grand entrance in 1920’s France, liposuction was all the rage in the 1980’s. It’s a classic, but it is invasive. Surgeons make small incisions to gain access to the fatty bulge. Then, they insert fluid to loosen the fat. An apparatus known as a cannula sucks the fat through plastic tubing, into a plastic canister. It may be a cosmetic procedure, but it isn’t pretty.
Liposuction is, however, still very popular, due to the following advantages:
- It is a more thorough, even aggressive, method of fat removal.
- Results are more immediate and show better contouring.
- Other surgical procedures can accompany it.
The procedure does have its disadvantages, though:
- Surgery comes with certain risks.
- You’re looking at least a few days of downtime, with activity restricted for 3 to 6 weeks.
- Surface irregularities, as in skin surface, sometimes occur.
CoolSculpting
Everything you need to know about CoolSculpting, especially in regards to our services, can be found here. Inspired by a report of toddlers who had developed cheek dimples after sucking on popsicles, two dermatologists conceived of freezing fat cells. The result of their research is a non-invasive fat-reduction technology known as CoolSculpting, which allows practitioners to apply a device that sucks up the fatty bulge, freezes the fat cells and leaves them to be eliminated naturally.
So there must be a reason why CoolSculpting is ranked number one in medical device growth, right? In fact, here are a few:
- The technology is non-invasive.
- Downtime is practically non-existent.
- There is little risk involved.
- Depending on how much fat is removed, it is more cost effective.
- This is more preferable for those who can’t have or don’t want surgery.
As with any procedure, there are disadvantages to CoolSculpting, for example:
- The results are less dramatic when compared with liposuction.
- Treatable areas are limited by the fit of the application head.
- To fit into the cup, bulges must be pinchable.
Of course, all this and more is best discussed in person. Just contact our Flat Iron location and schedule an appointment with our receptionist.
